One of the biggest perks of having a shore wedding is making it official on one of the many gorgeous South Jersey shore beaches. Each town has different rules, but most of them do have an application process to go through before you send out your save-the-dates for your beach nuptials.
Atlantic City: Permits required. You’ll need to fill out a Special Event Permit Application Form and you will need to supply a Liability Insurance Certificate. Ventnor City: A special events permit is required. No large ceremonies are permitted on the beach in Ventnor City. They do allow you to have a small wedding without any chairs or platforms. Contact the mayor’s office at (609) 823-7900.
Margate: Send a letter of intent to the attention of the chief of police. Include all the details, such as the date, location, time, how many people, and if you plan on setting up any chairs or platforms. Somers Point: Events on the beach require approval and there are fees depending on how large your ceremony will be. Contact the Recreation Commission at (609) 927-2053, ext. 3101.
Ocean City: Prior approval is required. Chairs and decorations are allowed, as long as they are taken down within a reasonable time after the ceremony. Find the Beach Wedding Permit Application at www.ocnj.us, or contact the Department of Community Services at (609) 525-9338.
Sea Isle City: There is no formal or official permission process for weddings on the beach in Sea Isle City. If you are going to set up chairs or any décor, they need to be set up right before and taken down right after the ceremony.
Avalon: Prior approval is required. If you’re getting married on the beach between June and Labor Day, keep in mind that your wedding will need to take place after 5 p.m. Contact the Avalon Borough Hall for more information at (609) 967-5924.
Stone Harbor: Submit a letter of intent to the city clerk’s office to obtain permission for a beach wedding. You will need to submit a letter to the clerk’s office with the participant names, contact information, date and time of the ceremony, and beach location. Contact the clerk’s office for more information at (609) 368-6800.
North Wildwood: There is no formal or official permission process for weddings on the beach in North Wildwood.
Wildwood: Depending on how large your ceremony on the beach in Wildwood is, a fee and insurance may be required. To begin the application process and obtain more information, contact the clerk’s office at (609) 522-2444, ext. 2209.
Wildwood Crest: Approval is required along with a small application fee. You also are required to secure a permit on the day of your event. Contact the clerk’s office at (609) 522-5176 ext.109 for more information.
