They are … PENN STATE! They are also one of the more unique couples we’ve highlighted. This whimsical bride from Avalon met her future hubs during their junior year at Penn State during the school’s THON Weekend. (If you’re not a Nittany Lion alum, THON is a 46-hour dance marathon in February that is the highlight the student body’s year-round effort to raise funds and hope for families battling childhood cancer. If you are an alum – THONNN!) The couple was engaged in Manhattan in their Upper East
Side apartment and quickly hit the town to celebrate with their closest city friends.
Catherine had already decided that a seaside wedding on the Seven Mile Beach (Avalon and Stone Harbor) was a must, so the couple selected the bayfront venue of the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor and a unique theme of watercolors, tropical accents and a Jersey focus.
The etiquette rule of nobody but the bride wearing white to a wedding was tossed to the wind for this wedding, and we loved it! The bridesmaids accompanied Catherine throughout the day dressed in white, knee-length gowns of their choosing. In addition, Catherine and her crew had their hair and makeup completed by MADiFACE HAIR and MAKEUP. Catherine’s flower crown and soft makeup perfectly accented her beautiful and unique Leanne Marshall gown, further enhancing the whimsical look. A deep navy watercolor design was featured on menu cards and venue signage throughout. Palms decorated the club and tables for a green accent with gold candles placed to accent the color scheme.
New Jersey was additionally highlighted through the food featuring Jersey Fresh tomatoes, berries, oysters and more, including the beautiful three-tiered cake provided by The Bake Works, a simplistic and elegant white buttercream masterpiece accented by vibrant fresh berries.
Catherine further customized the evening with personal touches including wearing her grandmother’s jewelry, and wrapping her grandfather’s cross around her bouquet. Guests were invited to smile upon entering the venue with an Instax camera setup as a favor for guests and a fun guest book for the couple to cherish. And a variety of watercolor signage decorating the venue included the couple’s favorite Ernest Hemingway quotes.
Guests danced surrounding Catherine and Christopher as they celebrated this Penn State union, and to top it off … they celebrated a State football victory as the Nittany Lions beat the Iowa Hawkeyes on the last play of the game that same night.
What we love:
We always love a good entrance, and this time, we aren’t actually talking about the couple! How cute are these two little ones, dressed to the nines, and zooming in during introductions on four wheels? A unique entrance is key for the big day, and this one took the cake!
