Wedding stories often begin with “It was meant to be.” In most cases, including this one, that happens to be true. However, a better way to start this wedding story would be to say “Timing is everything.” Julia and Kevin ran in the same circle of friends for years. Their paths crossed again in college and while she was very interested, Kevin had a girlfriend. Jump ahead to right after graduation when Kevin moved back to the area and the couple crossed paths yet again. This time, the timing was right and they finally went out on their first date. It was the first of many leading up to his amazing surprise Cape May proposal with a stunning ring that he designed himself.
They knew from that moment they would have their wedding at the shore. The beach is their happy place. They both grew up here, met here, fell in love and got engaged here, so a shore wedding was the only option for them. It helped that both of their families and many of their friends were also from the area or had houses here, making it convenient for everyone.
The couple picked the Stone Harbor Golf Club for their reception. They loved the timeless look and elegant décor that made the perfect setting for their big day. When the ceremony plans needed to be adjusted, the Stone Harbor Golf Club jumped right in, providing a beautiful location overlooking the golf course for the outside ceremony.
Julia and the bridal party got ready at ICONA Avalon. Located right on the beach, the view made for a stunning backdrop for pictures. The couple chose to do a “first look” at the beach where Julia grew up. Having a chance to see Kevin alone before the craziness set in really calmed Julia’s nerves and reminded them what the day was really about – them! It was a picture-perfect September afternoon and even their dog, Rooney, was able to join in the fun.
The outdoor ceremony was truly one to remember. Their color scheme included blush and ivory tones with hints of blue and green, staying with their classic theme. The gorgeous flower arrangements were put together by Blooms and included garden roses and hydrangeas, also staying with the blush and ivory color scheme. Some greens were added for a pop of color.
After the ceremony, guests were escorted to the back patio for the cocktail hour while the bridal party posed for photos on the golf course. Once inside the reception area, the party began and all of the bride and groom’s personal details shined through. It seemed as if almost everything had their custom monogram, yet it wasn’t overdone. Julia even designed a wedding crest with their monogram that was used for the cake topper. The monogram was a simple, elegant and personal touch added where they could, and it pulled everything together perfectly.
What we love:
Rooney! The couple’s furry friend made cameo appearances throughout the evening and we are loving it. From couple photos on the beach, to a signature cocktail – the Rooney Rose, to Rooney offering guests a cookie treat as a favor. We love the classic inclusion of their four-legged friend throughout!
