Some things are just meant to be. Katie went out one night to celebrate a friend’s purchase of a home. Brad met the group at the celebration because he was the real estate agent in the deal. The two hit it off and discovered they had more in common than they realized. Katie is a dental hygienist and it turns out that Brad was a patient in her office. When she got to work on Monday, she called Brad to tell him he needed a cleaning. An appointment was scheduled and the rest, as they say, is history.
Both Brad and Katie grew up spending their summers at the shore in Avalon and Stone Harbor. So it just made sense for Brad to choose the beach for his proposal. He popped the question on the beach outside of the Windrift Hotel Resort via an airplane banner from Paramount Air Service. When the couple went inside, their families were there to surprise Katie and start the celebration.
After looking at a few venues during the wedding-planning process, the couple agreed that rustic and ballrooms just weren’t the right fit for them but a beach wedding was! Naturally, they looked into the Windrift Hotel Resort and decided that was the ideal fit for them as well. Jeff Walden and Ronda Pursglove from the Windrift assisted with the wedding planning and made sure that everything was perfect for their special day.
Keeping with the beach theme, the colors Katie chose were navy blue, blush, whites and creams. They wanted everything to have a beach vibe but feel romantic as well. Karin Parker from Blooms carried the color theme into their flowers as well. With white and blush tones and accents of greenery, they were a combination of roses, dahlias, ranunculus and more. The tables at the reception had sets of clear glass cylinders with white flowers submerged in water and floating candles on top. Smaller floral arrangements were also used along with votive candles. When the sun went down, all of the candles in the windows looked incredible!
For the cake, they chose three layers with the top being chocolate with buttercream icing; the middle was bourbon vanilla with bourbon vanilla buttercream icing; and the bottom layer was chocolate chip pound cake with chocolate chip buttercream icing. There were loose, blush flowers as decoration that pulled everything together so nicely.
A lot of personal touches were added to their big day. Katie made sure to include all 22 people of her immediate family in the pre-wedding pictures and the ceremony itself took place with an arbor that Katie’s aunt and cousin decorated with the help of Blooms. Katie’s three brothers read during the ceremony and Brad’s father made a sign by hand with their deceased family members’ pictures on it. An added beach bonus was the Johnson’s Popcorn that all of the guests were able to take home. The newlyweds greeted their guests as they came in for the cocktail hour so that after eating everyone could just dance to their hearts’ desire. And they did!
What We Love:
We love that the Windrift let the party continue after the reception, where late-night partiers were able to continue dancing and have special pizzas made just for them!
