Like many modern couples, Kelly and Rob connected on a dating website. By the second date, they just knew it could be that forever kind of love. On a visit to the zoo to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their first date, Rob surprised Kelly by pulling out a beautiful engagement ring and asking for her hand in marriage.
Having both grown up in Cape May County, a shore wedding was imminent. The couple knew they wanted a rustic theme and, after touring the Avalon Links at the Avalon Golf Club and attending another event there, they found that the venue fit their vision. Before their big day, Kelly, Rob and their closest family and friends enjoyed a rehearsal dinner at the nearby ICONA Avalon, featuring an oceanfront restaurant. On the day of the wedding, before the ceremony, on-site coordinator Dawn Sachs carved out some time for the couple’s first look on the path leading to the gazebo.
Kelly wore a Stella York gown and her bridesmaids selected dresses in varying shades of blue. Rob and his groomsmen opted for gray suits with coordinating blue neckwear and pocket squares. The florist arranged Kelly’s bridal bouquet with orange, blue and white florals. The bridal party’s bouquets and boutonnieres, as well as the reception centerpieces, also incorporated the orange-and-blue color scheme. As an added touch, the florist designed half of the centerpieces with driftwood and the other half with floating flower heads.
The couple enlisted the help of The Bake Works to design a three-tier cake with tiramisu cream icing. The cake featured a different flavor for each tier and was created to look like tree bark to further incorporate their rustic vision. The custom cake knife set even had handles that looked like tree bark, engraved with their names and the wedding date.
Kelly and Rob shared their first dance to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat before guests joined the couple on the dance floor. Working with the entertainment company, the couple chose to play a game and give away their centerpieces to whomever was holding the playing card when the music stopped. After the party of a lifetime, the couple jetted off to Punta Cana for their honeymoon.
What we love:
The color scheme! The mixture of burnt orange and bright blue really pops against the lush greenery of the Avalon Links. It’s a unique color mixture that we don’t get to see very often, and brings in a tropical feel to an off-shore venue!
